Disturbing Brew, where are you?

Filed under: fat acceptance — worthyourweight @ 11:04 pm

I miss Disturbing Brew. Please come back. I’m one who felt your perspective balanced a lot of the issues in the movement that make me feel wobbly. I tried looking for an email address for you, but no dice. Maybe I looked in the wrong places. I hope a public plea doesn’t offend you. Just trying this to see if you’d at least get a pingback. If you aren’t planning on resuming that particular blog, would you consider archiving it? I’m sad at the thought of losing access to a lot of ideas that felt like guiding lights.

Best to you, Kell.

  1. I agree, I miss Kell too. I didn’t always agree with everything she said, but she had perspectives that made me think and broadened my outlook on a lot of things. I miss her wit, her intelligence, and her wisdom.

  2. So do I. She was one of the most passionate & uncompromising fat activists around, something of which we need many more. Too much of what passes for ‘fat activism’ consists of mostly agreeing with the oppressors about how ‘bad’ & ‘unhealthy’ fat is while begging them not to kill us anyway & saying that we are for equal rights for fat people. This approach has not worked in nearly 40 years, as the lack of progress since the creation of NAAFA shows. Kell is one who knows, beyond all doubt, that we will get nowhere by ‘making nice’ or, as some genius connected to NAAFA once told a good friend of mine, by “not wanting to seem to ‘condone’ fatness.” Her voice is much-needed, as, for that matter, are the voices of the rest of us who know better than to give a standing ovation to anyone who seems disinclined to shoot fat people on sight & proclaim him or her as some great ‘savior’ of or ‘spokeman for” fat people.

I too hope that we will be hearing more from you soon, Kell. You NEED to speak up & not worry about offending people, as I Know that I too need to do more often. Take care, recharge, & come back to the fight, please.

  4. I agree. Kell has a way of looking at the Fat Activism movement that is both very different and very valuable. It’s less touchy-feely and sometimes we need that.
